Rainy Day Activity – Playdough

If you follow me on Twitter you know it is another rainy day here in Missouri.  If you don’t already know that, you really need to follow me on Twitter, lol!

We are going to make some homemade playdough today.  You can make some too, unless of course you live somewhere the sun is actually visible.  If you can see the sun, frolic outside and think of the Heathen Family stuck inside due to rain!

Make Your Own Playdough

4 cups flour

1 cup salt

4 cups water

4 tablespoons oil

1/2 cup cream of tartar

1 package unsweetened Kool-Aid

Mix all ingredients in a small sauce pan and cook over low/medium heat.  Stir while heating until playdough is completely formed and is no longer sticky.  Allow to cool a little before storing in an air tight container or ziplock.

I love the unsweetened Kool-Aid playdough method. It’s what we use! You can also add food coloring and a few drops of essential oil. Purple playdough with lavender oil is a great way to unwind before nap times.

I love homemade playdough. I’ve tried a few recipes for it and this one is my favorite.

If you’re Australian and don’t therefore have koolaid, you can use food colouring.
